The Surface Water Reservoir & Piped Water Supply project was undertaken to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve access to reliable water services in Ukhia and Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.The project was developed under the Emergency Assistance Project for Water Supply & Sanitation at Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar District, an important initiative implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE).The project focuses on the development of integrated water infrastructure comprising surface water storage and reservoir facilities together with piped water supply systems. By combining water storage and distribution infrastructure, the project supports a more organized and reliable approach to supplying water to communities within the project area.Integrated Water Storage and Distribution InfrastructureThe project incorporates a Surface Water Reservoir designed to support the storage and management of available water resources. Mobile Water Treatment Plant for DPHE
The Mobile Water Treatment Plant for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) was developed to provide a reliable, efficient and flexible solution for treating water in diverse locations across Bangladesh.The project involved the supply of a pickup-mounted Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant with a treatment capacity of 2,000 liters per hour. Designed for mobility and rapid deployment, the system can be transported to locations where permanent water treatment infrastructure is unavailable, insufficient or temporarily disrupted.The project was executed for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and was completed between February 2014 and June 2014.Mobile and Flexible Water Treatment SolutionUnlike conventional fixed treatment facilities, the Mobile Water Treatment Plant is mounted on a pickup vehicle, allowing the complete treatment system to be transported and deployed where clean water is urgently required.This mobile configuration makes the plant suitable for use in remote locations, temporary settlements, emergency response operations, natural disasters and areas with limited water supply infrastructure.The system provides a practical solution for situations where constructing a permanent water treatment plant may not be immediately possible or where a rapid and temporary water treatment solution is required.Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment TechnologyThe plant utilizes Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology as its primary water treatment process. RO is an advanced membrane-based treatment technology used to reduce dissolved contaminants and impurities from source water.With a production capacity of 2,000 liters per hour, the system is designed to produce a substantial quantity of treated water while maintaining the mobility and flexibility required for field deployment.High-Capacity Emergency Water SupportThe 2,000 liters per hour capacity allows the Mobile Water Treatment Plant to support a variety of water supply requirements.The system can be deployed to assist communities facing temporary water shortages, support emergency and disaster response operations, provide water treatment in remote areas, and serve temporary facilities or large gatherings requiring an independent water treatment solution.Its mobility enables the treatment facility to be relocated according to changing operational requirements, making it a valuable addition to emergency water supply infrastructure.Reliable and User-Friendly OperationThe Mobile Water Treatment Plant was designed with operational reliability and ease of use in mind. The Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) for Supporting Water Supply at Bakkhali, Cox's Bazar City is an important water infrastructure project developed to strengthen the supply of treated water for Cox's Bazar Municipality and surrounding areas.Implemented under the Emergency Assistance Project (EAP), the project was undertaken by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Grant No. 0582. The project was constructed through the AWCL-Green Dot Limited Joint Venture, contributing to the development of essential water supply infrastructure in one of Bangladesh's most strategically important and rapidly growing urban areas.Large-Scale Surface Water Treatment CapacityThe project includes a Surface Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 1,000 m³ per hour, providing significant water treatment capacity to support the growing water demand of Cox's Bazar Municipality.The plant uses water collected from the Bakkhali River as its primary source. A dedicated pontoon-based water intake system has been developed to collect raw surface water and transfer it to the treatment facility.By utilizing a surface water source and integrating an appropriate intake and treatment system, the project provides an important alternative to groundwater-based water supply solutions.Rapid Sand Filtration SystemThe treatment process incorporates a Rapid Sand Filtration System, designed as a key component of the overall surface water treatment process.Raw water collected from the Bakkhali River is transferred through the water intake and treatment infrastructure, where the filtration system supports the removal of suspended particles and other impurities as part of the treatment process.The 1,000 m³/h capacity treatment plant and its associated filtration infrastructure provide a substantial water treatment solution to support municipal water supply requirements.Supporting Cox's Bazar MunicipalityThe primary coverage area of the project is the Municipality area of Cox's Bazar, where increasing population and water demand require sustainable and reliable water supply infrastructure.The SWTP contributes to strengthening the municipal water supply system by creating additional capacity for the treatment of surface water. A Sustainable Milestone in Integrated Waste Management in Ajmiriganj MunicipalityWe are proud to announce that the successful handover of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) project located in Ajmiriganj Municipality, Habiganj District has been completed.This project is not just an infrastructure; it is a fully integrated municipal waste management system, which will play an effective role in environmental protection, public health development and implementation of a circular economy.Waste Management Plant in Ajmiriganj Municipality - Green Dot LtdModern Model of Integrated Waste ManagementUnder the project, a complete and effective waste management ecosystem has been developed in Ajmiriganj Municipality.Through the Solid Waste Management (SWM) system, household solid waste, including kitchen waste, is being collected and processed in an orderly manner. As a result, the tendency of open dumping of waste will be reduced and the cleanliness of the city will increase significantly.The Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) will help reduce water pollution and public health risks by safely treating human excreta. This is particularly important, as unplanned sanitation systems often cause serious health and environmental problems.The Plastic Sorting Center is converting used plastic waste into recyclable raw materials by separating, crushing and processing it. This is not only reducing plastic pollution, but also creating new opportunities for the recycling industry.Finally, the Composting Bio-Fertilizer Plant is producing environmentally friendly compost fertilizer from post-recycling organic waste, which will be used as a sustainable and safe alternative in agriculture.Partnership and ImplementationThis Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project is implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
