The Mobile Water Treatment Plant for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) was developed to provide a reliable, efficient and flexible solution for treating water in diverse locations across Bangladesh.The project involved the supply of a pickup-mounted Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant with a treatment capacity of 2,000 liters per hour. Designed for mobility and rapid deployment, the system can be transported to locations where permanent water treatment infrastructure is unavailable, insufficient or temporarily disrupted.The project was executed for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and was completed between February 2014 and June 2014.Mobile and Flexible Water Treatment SolutionUnlike conventional fixed treatment facilities, the Mobile Water Treatment Plant is mounted on a pickup vehicle, allowing the complete treatment system to be transported and deployed where clean water is urgently required.This mobile configuration makes the plant suitable for use in remote locations, temporary settlements, emergency response operations, natural disasters and areas with limited water supply infrastructure.The system provides a practical solution for situations where constructing a permanent water treatment plant may not be immediately possible or where a rapid and temporary water treatment solution is required.Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment TechnologyThe plant utilizes Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology as its primary water treatment process. The Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) for Supporting Water Supply at Bakkhali, Cox's Bazar City is an important water infrastructure project developed to strengthen the supply of treated water for Cox's Bazar Municipality and surrounding areas.Implemented under the Emergency Assistance Project (EAP), the project was undertaken by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Grant No. 0582. The project was constructed through the AWCL-Green Dot Limited Joint Venture, contributing to the development of essential water supply infrastructure in one of Bangladesh's most strategically important and rapidly growing urban areas.Large-Scale Surface Water Treatment CapacityThe project includes a Surface Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 1,000 m³ per hour, providing significant water treatment capacity to support the growing water demand of Cox's Bazar Municipality.The plant uses water collected from the Bakkhali River as its primary source. A dedicated pontoon-based water intake system has been developed to collect raw surface water and transfer it to the treatment facility.By utilizing a surface water source and integrating an appropriate intake and treatment system, the project provides an important alternative to groundwater-based water supply solutions.Rapid Sand Filtration SystemThe treatment process incorporates a Rapid Sand Filtration System, designed as a key component of the overall surface water treatment process.Raw water collected from the Bakkhali River is transferred through the water intake and treatment infrastructure, where the filtration system supports the removal of suspended particles and other impurities as part of the treatment process.The 1,000 m³/h capacity treatment plant and its associated filtration infrastructure provide a substantial water treatment solution to support municipal water supply requirements.Supporting Cox's Bazar MunicipalityThe primary coverage area of the project is the Municipality area of Cox's Bazar, where increasing population and water demand require sustainable and reliable water supply infrastructure.The SWTP contributes to strengthening the municipal water supply system by creating additional capacity for the treatment of surface water. A Sustainable Milestone in Integrated Waste Management in Ajmiriganj MunicipalityWe are proud to announce that the successful handover of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) project located in Ajmiriganj Municipality, Habiganj District has been completed.This project is not just an infrastructure; it is a fully integrated municipal waste management system, which will play an effective role in environmental protection, public health development and implementation of a circular economy.Waste Management Plant in Ajmiriganj Municipality - Green Dot LtdModern Model of Integrated Waste ManagementUnder the project, a complete and effective waste management ecosystem has been developed in Ajmiriganj Municipality.Through the Solid Waste Management (SWM) system, household solid waste, including kitchen waste, is being collected and processed in an orderly manner. As a result, the tendency of open dumping of waste will be reduced and the cleanliness of the city will increase significantly.The Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) will help reduce water pollution and public health risks by safely treating human excreta. This is particularly important, as unplanned sanitation systems often cause serious health and environmental problems.The Plastic Sorting Center is converting used plastic waste into recyclable raw materials by separating, crushing and processing it. This is not only reducing plastic pollution, but also creating new opportunities for the recycling industry.Finally, the Composting Bio-Fertilizer Plant is producing environmentally friendly compost fertilizer from post-recycling organic waste, which will be used as a sustainable and safe alternative in agriculture.Partnership and ImplementationThis Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project is implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The Surface Water Based Piped Water Systems at Unchiprang, Teknaf, Cox's Bazar project was developed to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply solution in an area where access to safe water is critically important.Implemented under the Emergency Assistance Project (EAP), this project established multiple surface water-based treatment and piped distribution systems designed to collect, treat and deliver water to the communities within the project area. The project was implemented for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Cox's Bazar, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Grant No. G0592-BAN.Advanced Surface Water Treatment InfrastructureThe project consists of three water treatment facilities with capacities of 100 m³ × 2 units and 30 m³ × 1 unit. Together, these facilities provide a distributed approach to water treatment and supply, supporting water availability across the Unchiprang area.The systems use Ultra Filtration (UF)-based treatment technology, providing an advanced filtration process for treating water collected from the designated surface water source.The primary source of water for the project is lake water, which is collected and processed through the treatment systems before being supplied through the piped water network.Mini Piped Water Distribution NetworkA mini piped water network was developed as the project's primary distribution system, allowing treated water to be transmitted and distributed across the coverage area.The transmission infrastructure includes approximately 8,500 meters of 315 mm HDPE pipeline, providing the main route for transferring treated water from the treatment facilities.The distribution network includes approximately 8,900 meters of pipelines in 110 mm, 75 mm and 40 mm diameters, helping extend water supply services to different points within the project area.Together, the transmission and distribution pipeline infrastructure forms an integrated water supply network designed to support reliable access to treated water.Reliable and Sustainable Power SolutionsThe project incorporates multiple power systems to support continuous operation across the different treatment facilities.The 100 m³ × 2 water treatment systems are supported by REB power and generator backup, helping maintain operational continuity.The 30 m³ × 1 water treatment system is powered by solar energy, incorporating a renewable energy solution into the project's water supply infrastructure. This combination of grid power, backup generation and solar power demonstrates a flexible approach to operating water treatment systems in challenging environments.Supporting Sustainable Water AccessThe project represents an important investment in sustainable water infrastructure in Teknaf Upazila under Cox's Bazar District. The Surface Water Treatment Plant for Payra Port Authority was developed to strengthen water supply infrastructure in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and support the operational requirements of one of Bangladesh's important port development areas. The project was undertaken for the Payra Port Authority and involved the construction of a modern Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) with a capacity of 250,000 liters per hour. The project covered the design, development, construction and implementation of an integrated surface water treatment facility capable of supporting reliable access to treated water. Completed between October 2015 and November 2016, the project represents an important contribution to the development of sustainable water infrastructure in the Kalapara area. High-Capacity Surface Water Treatment Solution With a treatment capacity of 250,000 liters per hour, the Surface Water Treatment Plant was designed to address significant water supply requirements through a dedicated and reliable treatment system. The facility utilizes surface water as its primary source and incorporates appropriate water treatment infrastructure to process raw water and support the production of treated water for the project area. The development of a dedicated treatment plant helps strengthen local water infrastructure while reducing dependence on alternative water sources that may be insufficient to meet growing demand. Water Supply Works for Municipal Area

The Water Supply Works for Municipal Area project is an important municipal infrastructure initiative undertaken by Water Birds Limited, a concern of Zi Group, to strengthen and expand the water supply system for the local community.The project involves the development of an integrated water supply network consisting of two production tube wells, one Overhead Tank (OHT), one pump house, an extensive distribution pipeline network and 1,822 service connections.With a total distribution pipeline length of approximately 15.80 kilometres, the project is designed to improve the capacity and reach of the municipal water supply system and support more reliable access to water for households and other users within the service area.Integrated Water Supply InfrastructureThe project incorporates multiple essential components required for an effective municipal water supply system.Two Production Tube Wells have been included to develop and extract groundwater for the water supply network. The production wells serve as an important source of water for the overall system.An Overhead Tank (OHT) forms a key part of the water storage and distribution infrastructure. Safe water is essential for life, public health and sustainable community development. Recognizing the critical importance of reliable access to safe drinking water, the Surface Water Reservoir & Piped Water Supply at Nayapara, Teknaf, Cox's Bazar project was developed to strengthen water supply infrastructure for both the Rohingya community and surrounding host communities.The project was implemented under the Emergency Assistance Project (EAP) by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Grant No. 0582. Construction was carried out by AWCL-JI JV, with support from Zi Group.Due to the limited availability of groundwater and freshwater sources in the project area, a reliable and sustainable surface water treatment and distribution system was required. The project therefore incorporated a modern Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP), water reservoir and piped water supply infrastructure to help provide a dependable source of treated water for the communities within the project coverage area.Modern Surface Water Treatment and Storage SystemThe project includes a modern Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) with a treatment capacity of 200 m³ per hour, equivalent to approximately 200,000 liters of water per hour.The treatment system uses a coagulation-flocculation and multigrade-based filtration process to treat raw surface water before distribution. Water is collected through a floating pumping station, providing an effective method for drawing water from the designated surface water source and transferring it to the treatment facility.To support water availability and long-term storage, a fully modernized water reservoir was constructed as part of the project. The reservoir and associated piped distribution infrastructure help maintain a more reliable supply of treated water across the project coverage area.Advanced Monitoring and Reliable OperationDespite being implemented within a relatively limited project footprint, the Surface Water Treatment Plant incorporates modern monitoring and operational systems.The facility is continuously monitored through a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, a remote monitoring and data transfer system, and round-the-clock closed-circuit camera surveillance. These systems support the monitoring of water quality and operational performance.Generators have also been installed at the SWTP to support continuous operation and help ensure an uninterrupted water supply.Water Supply for Rohingya and Host CommunitiesThe project coverage includes Rohingya Camp 26, Rohingya Camp 27 and surrounding host community areas.As part of the water distribution infrastructure, Tap Stands are being installed to enable regular access to treated water for both the Rohingya community and host communities. The integrated reservoir and piped water supply system helps strengthen water accessibility in an area where sustainable and reliable water infrastructure is critically important.Commitment to Safe Water and Sustainable DevelopmentAccess to safe drinking water is fundamental to public health, human dignity and sustainable development.
